Meet Matt Horr, Director, International Programs.

Our team sat down with Matt Horr, Director, InternationalPrograms to learn more about him and the vast wealth of knowledge he brings to Bramer Group. You can read our conversation below.

What decision gave you the most success in your career?

I reached out to a former boss and asked for a job that was well above my experience level. He took a chance and gave me my start in Foreign Military Sales.

What is your most prized possession?

Three simple pieces of furniture – a chair and two benches – made by my Great Uncle.

Do you have a “pump up” song? If so, what is it?

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. I used it as my “walk song” before I would head to the flight deck with my helicopter crew while deployed with the Navy.

Who is your hero?

My Great Uncle John. He was a farmer and cooked the best post roast. His passion was repairing old farm equipment, often without the original parts, and handcrafting rustic furniture. He was selfless and a beautiful soul.

What is your advice to young people who are interested in working in government relations?

Go out of your way to introduce yourself to people in and around the jobs you are interested in pursuing. Asking questions, putting in the effort to learn about the industry and others, and building strong networks will open doors.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

The final shot to become collegiate free pistol champion. I entered the finals in the lead, but thoughtI was tied going into the final shot (I was actually ahead by a point). I executed the final shot perfectly – my focus was 100% and I didn’t need to look to know it was a 10.

Tell us about a memorable moment from your career.

I was honored to beExercise Director twice for Pacific Vanguard with three of our strongest allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific (Australia, Japan and Korea). We were able to take concrete steps towards improving our ability to operate our ships, submarines and aircraft together in multi-national task groups. It was inspiring to see each nation take the lead during events and the pride and professionalism they displayed through teamwork.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

I wish I could have conversations with my dogs. They always know the right things to say but I’m not very good at understanding.
